High Altitude Tour of Mount Rosa


Our high altitude Monte Rosa Tour explores the immense and spectacular mountain range and glaciers all at over 4000 metres.  With at least 5 summits over 4000m to conquer and the comfort of mountain refuges renowned for quality of service and comfort this tour offers an unforgettable experience. The tour starts  by taking the cable car from Cervinia to  Plateau Rosà where our 6 days commence.

Program
First meeting will be the evening before departure for an equipment check. 

Day 1: departure from  Breuil Cervinia with ski lifts to Plateau Rosa.  From here we  immediately depart on the  glacier and head to the summit of Breithorn 4130m, after the summit we  go do down to the Guide Ayas Refuge. passing over the ‘Colle di Verra’. 6 hours.
Day 2: From the refuge we return up the Colle di Verra and then tackle the west face of the Castore.  The climb is on a fairly steep snow slope which takes us to the summit at 4200m.  We then head down the normal route arriving at Refuge Quintino Sella. 5 hours.
Day 3: We cross a flat an easy glacier which takes us to the most challenging part of the tour.  We ascend the steep slope of the ‘Naso del Lyskamm’ with use of crampons and ice axes.  Then, we head down a steep slope on the side of the Lys Glacier. An easy descent that takes us to either Refuge Gnifetti or Refuge Mantova Refuge Ghifetti or Refuge Mantova. 6 hours.
Day 4: We ascend an easy glacier that takes us to Refuge Capanna Margherita on the Punta Ghifetti  4559m.  An incredible sunset and panorama may be enjoyed from here, including the summits of Monte Rosa, The Cervino and Mont Blanc . 4 hours.
Day 5: We head down to the ‘Colle Gnifetti’ and then climb to the summit of the Zumstein 4450m. We return back down the same route and then turn onto the extensive Grenz Glacier.  We will spend the night at the Monterosa Hutte refuge.  5 hours.
Day 6: We descend the  Gorner Glacier and then take the path that leads us to the train station below  Gornergratt.  The train will take us down into Zermatt where we will take the ski lifts to head back to Cervinia. 5 hours.

Number of participants: max 4 per Mountain Guide.
Materials: Rucksack, poles (optional) waterproof mountaineering boots, windproof jacket, thermal top, warm hat, cap or hat for the sun, sun cream, gloves, jumper, 2 t-shirts, 2 pairs of socks, thermal trousers, water bottle, sunglasses, camera, head lamp, underwear, personal hygiene set, small towel, energy bars.

The price includes: UIAGM Mountain Guide, common materials, H/B accommodation in the refuges, ski lifts and organisation of the tour.
The price does not include: harness, ice axes, crampons (all can be hired from us), taxi, transfers to and from the departure and arrival points. 

Transport or change in program due to bad weather or mountain conditions.
The Mountain Guide may change the program based on the weather or mountain conditions and the fitness of the group.
